When we arrived in Barcelona it was the next day since we were so many hours ahead now (6 to be exact).
Since we had quite a few hours before the next flight, we decided to take a nap. We laid our blankets, which we took from the last plane, and fell asleep on the hard floor. We were both exhausted and with the time change we should still be sleeping if we were back in SC. We curled up next to a window for 2 hours with our bags and were both out.
The next flight was only 2 hours from Barcelona to Vienna. They gave us a chicken sandwich (in the US you wouldn't get anything for a 2 hour flight but we are not in Kansas anymore!). Since we were both pretty hungry I asked to get a second one and all they had was cheese, even though I think the stewardess was lying to me that there were no more chicken because they had so many sandwiches in the back. We really enjoy traveling together, we both feel at ease even though we don't know where we are, the language that is spoken, or anyone else, but as long as we have each other we feel great!
Once we landed, we had to find the right way out of the city. Transportation was a bit stressful since people are not a whole lot of help and there were so many subways/trams/buses/trains to choose from. The info desk helped a little and then we just would ask random people. It was a very unsure feeling, but we got on the subway, off on the first stop, which was the main station in Vienna. Phew!! We got more help there and headed to the tram, 2 stops in we realized we didn't validate our passes for tomorrow which would be a pain if we waited until tomorrow so we got off the tram, crossed the street and got on the tram going back to the main station, got the tickets validated, then back to the tram. Once getting off the tram, we got on to a bus. We got a bit lost when trying to find the bus because there are bus named 67 which we thought was correct but wasn't. Our bus was 67A. We asked a bartender who barely spoke English and she showed us the bus stop which was down the road. It was a fairly long bus ride to the first airbnb. The neighborhood was definitely the outskirts of the large city. Kinda sketchy to be honest. The town looked very old America, fairly beat-up town, most people spoke German, lots of smokers everywhere, creepy guys in 20's, 30's & 40's roaming around the streets.
We finally made it to the place and met the couple. They were really nice, told us about a local restaurant only 500 m away (good thing bc we were starving). They said it was a short walk and only directions, but of course we got lost and it took like 20 to get there. Lots of dark streets, the town looked very shut down and everything closed and it was only like 8 o'clock.
We got there and we saw a smoking section in the front and non-smoking in the back, wow did we get in a time machine and go back 20 years? No one spoke English so the waiter and waitresses didn't really know how to help us but we tried our best to order chicken. We knew what wienerschnitzel was and we wanted that but chicken so we talked with our hands the best we could. We wouldn't know what we actually ordered until it arrived, but when it did it looked like we got just fried thin chicken which later we found out is exactly what we ordered and were looking for. It just looked like fried large and thin chicken pieces with a salad. The salad was unique as well--finely cut up cucumber, carrots, this cold potato thing and one large leaf lettuce (check out my pics on fb), and we got a water (of course you pay for water in the UK). It was very satisfying for us to share this meal---lots and lots of food for the two of us. After dinner we walked back to the place and went right to bed.
